The Zapata Swamp is the largest and best preserved swamp in Cuba and one of the most important in the Caribbean, declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. This unique area offers amazing fauna, home to the Cuban crocodile, endemic birds and landscapes that combine mangroves, lagoons and tropical jungles. Nearby are charming places such as Playa Larga and Cueva de los peces, ideal for enjoying the charm of the Caribbean coast. Places to visit
- Mini farm – here you will see typical Cuban animals and plants, such as bananas and sugar cane, and see how fresh cane juice is made.
- The Crocodile Farm is a place to see different species of crocodiles and learn about their breeding and conservation.
- The Bay of Pigs is a historical place associated with interesting pages of Cuba’s past.
- Cave of the fishes is an incredible natural cenote where you can swim in crystal clear waters and see exotic fish.
- There you can dive, snorkel, observe corals and fish and feed them directly in the water.
- Lunch at a local restaurant – optional exotic Cuban specialties: turtle, crocodile, fish, deer, hutia, pork, crab, lobster or beef.
- The Colibri House is a magical place where you can see the world’s smallest bird, the colibri, as well as other Cuban birds, such as the zunzun, in their natural environment.
- On the way back, you will have the opportunity to stop at a local fruit market and taste Cuba’s fresh tropical fruits.
